Metal Cutting Guillotine Blades

General Mixed Steel Cutting

There is no magic solution to a guillotine blades harden and temper choice when cutting varied metals
in a general fabrication workshop

Harden and temper guillotine blades to 57/58 Rockwell increases abrasion resistance, increases periods between regrinds, but the blade is more likely to chip when cutting ‘High Tensile’ carbon steels, stainless steel, durbar
Harden and temper blades to Rockwell 55/56, then chipping is less of a problem, but abrasion resistance is reduced, therefore shorter periods between blade regrinds are experienced.

Then there is the consideration of the ‘shock’ that heavy duty cutting creates
(Cutting above 15 mm material thickness)
