Focal Spot Size

Home » Focal Spot Size

For a given metal thickness, in general as the focal spot size increases, the cut quality will increase, however the the cutting speed will decrease, increase in the Focal Spot size produce a wider Kerf, this does assist with parts removal,  there is a however, being, as the spot size increases the assist gas flow will require to be increased to remove the increased metal melt, otherwise there will be dross on the underside of the cut-edge. Conversely  as the focal spot size decreases, the cut quality does decrease, but cut speeds will increase,  the cut width (Kerf) will decrease so that it will be harder for enough gas flow to blow through the cut, to remove the dross.
